Margaret Connolly has been a literary agent for more than twenty years, after giving up a career as a lawyer in the mid-1980s.

She set up her own business in 1992, and since then has developed a client list which resembles a roll-call of Australia's finest novelists, poets, dramatists, non-fiction authors, film-makers, children's writers and illustrators.

She works from home, on a desk which is covered with papers and one very useful computer.

The "Associates" in her company's title consist of her husband, three children and a dog named Arthur.

Gregory Rogers: The Hero of Little Street

    hero

Gregory Rogers holds an advance copy of The Hero of Little Street, which Allen & Unwin will publish later this year.

Escaping from a gang of bullies, our Boy slips into a grand old gallery – the perfect hiding place, full of mystery and treasures.

Enchanted by the magic of painting and befriended by a mischievous dog, the Boy ventures into the world of a famous Vermeer painting – and he and his new friend are transported to Little Street, Delft in seventeenth-century Holland.

But the streets of Delft are a dangerous place for a dog, and the Boy has to use every ounce of his ingenuity to rescue his canine mate from an untimely fate on the butcher’s block.

Starring a cast of much-loved characters, alive with vivid detail and exciting from start to finish, The Hero of Little Street is a triumph of visual storytelling.

This is Book 3 in the Boy Bear series, following the internationally acclaimed The Boy, The Bear, The Baron, The Bard and Midsummer Knight.

Gregory Rogers has worked in Australia and overseas as a speaker, teacher and lecturer in illustration. He was the first Australian to be awarded the prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal.

Book 1 in the Boy Bear series, The Boy, The Bear, The Baron, The Bard was short-listed for the 2005 Children’s Book Council Awards, Younger Readers; selected as one of the Ten Best Illustrated Picture Books of 2004 by the New York Times and as a Notable Children’s Book of the Year by the American Library Association. Book 2, Midsummer Knight was a Magpies Pick of 2006 and a 2007 CBCA Notable Book.

Gregory lives in inner-city Brisbane next door to a bookshop and a clairvoyant.
